Shawn Mendes cancels the rest of his tour citing mental health challenges

Shawn Mendes, the pop singer, has canceled the remainder of his tour, just weeks after he postponed concert dates to address his mental health.

The Grammy nominee "wasn't completely prepared for the toll that being back on the road would take on (him)" and decided to cancel the tour after consulting with "an incredible group of health professionals," he said in a statement posted on his social media accounts.

"I started this tour excited to finally get back to playing live after a long break due to the pandemic," he said. "However, the reality is that I was not at all prepared for how difficult touring would be after this time away." "It's become clear that I need to take the time I've never taken before."

Mendes has already performed in Sacramento, California, as well as cities throughout Canada. However, following the initial run of shows, Mendes informed fans earlier this month in a now-deleted post that he would be taking a break from the tour to address mental health concerns.

The Canadian-born performer has been open with his fans about his health issues. He tweeted a screenshot of an iPhone Note he'd written in April, saying he frequently "feels like he's either flying or drowning."
"Sometimes I don't really care what other people think and I feel free," he wrote. "Most of the time [sic], it's a struggle."

In November, Mendes announced his split from singer and "Seorita" duet partner Camila Cabello. Mendes told SiriusXM's "Morning Mashup" a few months after their split that he was "giving (himself) a lot of grace" to heal from the breakup. He also told his Instagram followers in March that he was lonely after their divorce.
