Taylor Swift says a new album is coming, after winning the top award at the MTV VMAs

Taylor Swift won the top honor at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday before revealing a surpisingly significant announcement: the release of her upcoming album.

After winning video of the year for "All Too Well: The Short Film," which won best long form video, Swift said, "I thought it would be a nice opportunity to remind you that my new album comes out on October 21." "I will tell you more at midnight."

Swift said on social media that her upcoming 10th studio album, "Midnights," will be the follow-up to "Folklore" and "Evermore," which were both published two years apart and featured "tales of 13 sleepless nights spread throughout my life." The album of the year at the 2021 Grammy Awards was "Folklore."

The pop artist revealed it towards the conclusion of her award speech, during which she also thanked Olivia Rodrigo and Doja Cat for winning the category.

She stated, "I know with every breath I take that without you, the fans, we wouldn't have been able to make this short film. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have the confidence to record my albums again.

She talked about making her first short film and thanked everyone who helped, particularly the project's stars, Sadie Sink and Dylan O'Brien.

Swift stated, "We have given this our all.

Rapper Jack Harlow left his touch on the entire production. The rapper joined Fergie onstage as she sung her 2006 hit while wearing a shimmering silver dress with the words "First Class" in red. He began his performance inside a faux airplane walking down aisle while performing his popular song "First Class," which was sampled by Fergie's "Glamorous."

After "First Class" won the prize for song of the summer later in the show, Harlow thanked Fergie for accompanying her and clearing the song. The inclusion of Fergie in this form means the world to me because "Glamorous" was one of the most significant songs of my childhood. The beauty of this song is that many don't know how hip-hop it is because of the sampling.

Nearly three months after the ruling in his defamation battle with his ex-wife Amber Heard, Depp made an unexpected appearance as the Moon Man during the event. The actor, 59, floated from the ceiling while donning the iconic astronaut suit and having his face digitally added to the helmet.

Depp addressed the audience at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, "And you know what? I needed the work."

Taylor Swift was forced to get up and dance when Lizzo sang her brand-new song, "2 Be Loved (Am I Ready)." Lizzo got an award for best music video for "About Damn Time."

When Harlow's name was announced, he returned to the stage to accept the first prize for best collaboration for his guest performance on Lil Nas X's song "Industry Baby." With seven each, Lil Nas X and Harlow are tied for the most nominations.

Lil Nas X stated, "This one is for the champs," before Harlow praised him for working with him on the number-one song. Their nominations were boosted by the song, which put them up against Drake, Bad Bunny, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles, and Lizzo for artist of the year.

Along with singing and receiving accolades, Harlow served as one of the show's hosts alongside LL Cool J and Nicki Minaj.

After her set, the rapper accepted the show's Video Vanguard award, which MTV has said she is receiving for her artistry, boundary-breaking hip-hop, and status as a global superstar. Minaj performed a medley of her career's biggest hits from "Roman's Revenge," "Chun-Li," "Moment 4 Life," "Beez in the Trap," "Anaconda," and "Super Bass." The award bears Michael Jackson's name.

Minaj paid homage to various musicians during her acceptance speech, including Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Whitney Houston, and Michael Jackson. She discussed the significance of mental wellness.

Minaj, who subsequently won best hip-hop for her song "Do We Have a Problem?" with Lil Baby, remarked, "I wish people took mental health seriously, especially when you think they have the greatest lives.

Because of his performance at Madison Square Garden in New York, Harry Styles, who won album of the year for "Harry's House," was unable to attend the ceremony.

After being named artist of the year, Bad Bunny played his smash song "Titi Me Pregunto" live from Yankee Stadium.

"I have been saying it, and I always thought that I could become great from the beginning," he stated. I am Benito Antonio Martnez from Puerto Rico to the world, thank you! That I might become one of the biggest stars in the world without having to change my culture, language, or vocabulary!

When they performed "From the D 2 The LBC," which can be found on Eminem's greatest hits album "Curtain Call 2," Snoop Dogg and Eminem took the metaverse to the VMAs.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers, comprised of Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith, and John Frusciante, took the stage as the winners of the Global Icon award and were introduced by Cheech & Chong as their "favorite band of all time." The band performed several songs, including their hit "Can't Stop" from the group's 2002 album "By the Way" and their most recent hit "Black Summer," which won best rock.

Flea gave a speech about how much he loved people, cockroaches, trees, and dirt. The award was given as a tribute to late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins by the band's drummer, Smith, who passed away in January.

He said, "I dedicate this to Taylor and his family." I adore them and mourn him constantly.

Madonna, the artist with the most awards in MTV history (20 wins), is the only one to be nominated for a VMA in each of the five decades. As a result of her 14th studio album, "Madame X," she received her 69th nomination.

Mississippi residents are preparing for possible river flooding

Suzannah Thames' rented home in Jackson, Mississippi's capital city, was submerged in filthy, snake-infested floodwater in 2020 when the Pearl River overflowed its banks.

Thames demonstrated how deep the water was on Friday by pointing to a column on the front porch; it was approximately her waist deep at the time. Days after storms dropped copious rainfall in Mississippi and other parts of the Deep South, she is now preparing for another inundation.

According to hydrologists, the Pearl River near Jackson will peak on Tuesday at a somewhat lower elevation than it did two years ago. People in low-lying areas are being warned by emergency personnel to get ready for their homes and places of business to flood.

The three-bedroom house that Thames is currently renting to a newlywed couple — a medical student and engineer who will momentarily reside in a short-term holiday rental — had furniture, appliances, and other possessions moved out by a crew she hired.

Thames stated as she oversaw the transfer, "We're fortunate that we have two trailers. "There are folks who have nothing, and there are people who will lose everything."

Chokwe Antar Lumumba, the mayor of Jackson, has warned people living in flood zones to pack extra supplies for a multi-day escape. In order to protect property, he said, law enforcement officials will enhance patrols.

At a news conference on Friday, Lumumba urged people to "not let that be an obstacle to you saving your life and saving the lives of those other people in your home."

Emily Davis, a second-year medical student, and her husband Andrew Bain, an engineer, rent the northeast Jackson white-brick house from Thames. Although they were moving into a flood plain, according to Davis, she had never had to make preparations for high water.

As workers loaded items into moving trailers, Davis said, "I've felt incredibly overwhelmed because there's so much to do — so much more than I realized to accomplish."

Thames said that the rental property has flood insurance and that she lives close by in an elevated residence. She said that her home was built four feet (1.2 meters) above the level of a significant flood in 1979.

Thames stated that she wants the government to implement a long-discussed idea to create a new lake close to Jackson in order to reduce flooding in the metro area. Due to funding issues and criticism from those living along the Pearl River's downstream, the project has come to a standstill.

Because she can see deer, alligators, and other animals less than a mile from the Pearl River, even inside the city boundaries, Thames refers to her neighborhood as "heaven."

Thames stated, "I've lived in the flood zone for 30 years." I'm not moaning, "Oh, poor me, I've been flooded," since I anticipated it and was ready for it.

Kim Kardashian, Kevin Hart and Sylvester Stallone are accused of massive water waste

In the midst of a catastrophic drought emergency affecting all of Southern California, some of the most well-known celebrities in Los Angeles are coming under fire after being exposed for using excessive amounts of water.

The worst offenders in Southern California include Kim Kardashian and her sister Kourtney, according to Mike McNutt, a spokesman for the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District, who talked to NPR.

The district, which serves the affluent cities of Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills, and Westlake Village, has issued the two "notices of exceedance." Residents in the district who have exceeded their department-allotted monthly water use budget by at least four times receive those notices, according to McNutt.

And they are not the only ones—reality TV stars as well.

Additionally, despite numerous warnings and fines, comedian Kevin Hart, former NBA player Dwyane Wade and his wife, actress Gabrielle Union, and Sylvester Stallone have all been found to be in violation of the district restrictions. Now, the water department could put in flow restriction devices that could cut down on torrential showers to a trickle, which would almost surely leave the rolling lawns around each home brown.

The Los Angeles Times broke the news of the infractions first. McNutt confirmed the information on Tuesday, saying that a total of more than 1,600 residents are breaking the law.

He mentioned that the district is entirely dependent on imported water that travels 400 kilometers from the Sierra Nevada mountains. He continued, "We have no groundwater, and we have no other sources to draw from.

The Kardashians, according to McNutt, have been abusing their official water allotment by 150% or more for a number of months since water conservation measures were initially put in place at the end of the previous year.

According to the utility, Kim Kardashian's two adjacent Hidden Hills parcels consumed more water than they were allowed in June by around 232,000 gallons. She lost an additional 101,000 more gallons to her sister Kourtney, who resides in Calabasas. That much water combined would fill one-half of an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

After going over their allotted water usage by 90,000 gallons in the month of June, Dwyane Wade and his wife Gabrielle Union seem to have started to slow down. The pair said in a statement to the Times that their May bill was startling since they used an additional 489,000 gallons of water that month as a result of a swimming pool breakdown.

The Times was also informed by a spokesperson for Sylvester Stallone and his model wife Jennifer Flavin that their property had a number of large, mature fruit trees that would be in danger if they weren't properly watered. The pair utilized 230,000 extra gallons of water in June, which is more than 533% of their allotted allotment.

Additionally, Kevin Hart's 26-acre Calabasas property received more water than the allocated 117,000 gallons.

For those who blatantly disregard conservation requirements, the department has a method for determining fines, according to McNutt. But he admits that the wealthy and famous are not deterred by them.

Money fines will mean nothing to the local celebrities, singers, and athletes because they have plenty of money and could easily spend $5,000 per month on their water bill if they so desired, he claimed.

In fact, Kim Kardashian was charged over $2,325 for her excessive use. Her empire now includes a line of underwear called Skims. That is around 38 bodysuits' worth, which sell for $62 each. Less than the price of three second-row seats to the comedian's performance in Chicago on Thursday, Hart's fine for June is approximately $1,170. (Single tickets cost $382 apiece, plus any costs.)

The district is now aiming to damage people where it counts.

That would entail setting up a flow restriction system that would automatically cut the amount of outside water used by 70%, according to McNutt.

One must "understand that what they're doing is they're taking water away from somebody who could be miles and miles and miles away... who needs it for cooking, cleaning, or bathing," McNutt said of those who prefer lush, green landscaping over conservation.

The Best Movies in Theaters Right Now

Movie theaters are officially back in business. We're here to sort out what's actually the best bang for your buck at the box office as cinematic offerings slowly return to the big screen in comparison to streaming services and various digital rental retailers.

A new year and a new COVID variant are in full swing, so even if there are bigger budget offerings hitting the big screen, now might be a good time to exercise restraint.

Of course, use your discretion when deciding whether to return to the movies, but an increasing number of vaccinated moviegoers are itching to get back in front of the big screen. And I'm pleased to say that we're back and ready to assist.

However, things in theatrical distribution are a little strange right now, so there's a mix of Oscar winners, lingering releases, indies, and classics booked—depending, of course, on the theater. But, thankfully, there have been so many good movies released this year that you should have no trouble finding something to watch.

Girl Picture

Release Date: August 12, 2022

Director: Alli Haapasalo

Stars: Aamu Milonoff, Eleonoora Kauhanen, Linnea Leino

Rating: NR

Runtime: 100 minutes

Growing up can be difficult. Especially when you're at what Finnish director Alli Haapasalo refers to as the "liminal" age of 17 or 18—aware enough to know you want more but too young to figure out how to get it. In Haapasalo's beautifully designed, emotionally honest Girl Picture, three teenagers who are neither girls nor women seek love, sex, belonging, and, most importantly, the strength of their own voices to carry them through a period of transition. Ronkko (Eleonoora Kauhanen) and Mimmi (Aamu Milonoff) are best friends, classmates, and coworkers at a smoothie shop where they tell each other everything in their spare time. Emma (a graceful and compelling Linnea Leino) is a figure skater and classmate with her sights set on the European championships and a mother who simply wants her to be a kid. Sparks fly when a high-strung Emma meets a cynical Mimmi at the smoothie counter. It's unclear whether the sparks are between friends, enemies, or lovers until a mutual classmate jokingly invites Mimmi and Ronkko to the party Emma reluctantly attends that night. While Emma and Mimmi are getting along in their own story, Ronkko (played by Kauhanen with endearing, open bubbliness) is out to orgasm, or at least figure out what's wrong with her hookups. She stumbles from one oversexed, awkward interaction to the next, steadfastly heterosexual and pursuing pleasure. These are micro-stories, but Haapasalo treats them with investment and verve that honors her characters. When you're in your late teens, every day is the most important day of your life, and every argument has the potential to bring the sky crashing down. That Haapasalo and screenwriters Ilona Ahti and Daniela Hakulinen recognize this results in a film that not only calls out its characters' overreactions, but also examines and empathizes with the source of those wounds. Girl Picture is a joyous, resonant snapshot of growing into one's own, and challenging even your own expectations of who you thought you could be, set among the depths of that respect and discovery.—Shayna Maci Warner

Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris

Release Date: July 15, 2022
Director: Anthony Fabian
Stars: Lesley Manville, Isabelle Huppert, Jason Isaacs, Alba Baptista, Lucas Bravo, Elen Thomas, Lambert Wilson
Rating: PG
Runtime: 115 minutes

Ada Harris (Lesley Manville) has never made a request. She is a hardworking cleaning lady in 1950s London who spends her days cleaning up other people's messes with an unbreakable smile on her face, consistently spreading positivity wherever she goes. When she discovers the Dior magic in the form of an employer's dress, she realizes it's finally time to treat herself. Ada becomes adamant about obtaining the large sum of money required to visit Dior's opulent Paris headquarters, employing her British cunning and persevering through a number of faux pas and social gaffes along the way. Mrs. Harris does make it to Paris (thanks for the spoiler, movie title), and while there, she faces a slew of trials and tribulations as she searches for the dress of her dreams. Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris, directed by Anthony Fabian and written by Fabian, Carroll Cartwright, Leigh Thompson, and Olivia Hetreed, masterfully achieves every note essential in a captivating underdog story. Much of the film's tonal success can be attributed to Manville, who was cast as the polar opposite of her character in Paul Thomas Anderson's Phantom Thread, in which she played the stony, business-savvy sister of a prominent 1950s fashion designer. Manville portrays the optimistic, inexperienced Ada in Harris with a perfect blend of coarse humor and clumsy mannerisms, as well as subtle yet powerful glints of empathy and sophistication. Fabian's detailed and textured storytelling complements Manville's compassionate performance. When Ada finally arrives in Paris, we see the city in the same way she does: in sweeping widescreen, blushing with pastel colors, with rain-covered streets glistening like dazzling disco balls. Harris maintains a careful balancing act between humor and seriousness throughout its runtime, and it mostly succeeds. It's an uplifting and elegantly made film that doesn't require a love of fashion to enjoy—just as Ada reminds us that we don't have to be upper-class to wear haute couture.—Aurora Amidon

Both Sides of the Blade

Release Date: July 8, 2022
Director: Claire Denis
Stars: Juliette Binoche, Vincent Lindon, Grégoire Colin
Rating: R
Runtime: 116 minutes

Both Sides of the Blade is Denis' latest work, following her sci-fi English-language debut High Life, but its premise is distinctly French. Both Sides of the Blade, which follows a tumultuous love triangle among middle-aged Parisians, epitomizes a Rendez-Vous of sorts—passionate and brimming with longing, it makes sense that the film's Anglophone title evokes the heat of a forbidden liaison. Sara (Juliette Binoche) and Jean (Vincent Lindon) embrace and caress each other while floating in crystal clear water on a picturesque seaside getaway. The specifics of their relationship are unknown, but an air of familiar affection pervades their meeting. Denis has nearly returned to her Gallic roots four years after dazzling audiences with the striking and cerebral High Life. Both Sides of the Blade, which is unabashedly French at its core, feels all too predictable at times—an extramarital affair will wreak havoc on the cheater's life if she is exposed; she is unsure which relationship she should sacrifice—yet Denis manages to instill a masterful artistry to the otherwise formulaic plot. What could have been a tepid, uninspired Francophone adultery drama instead features two stellar performers who bounce off each other with manic perfection. Because of the constraints of COVID-19 on set, the intimacy of the story was baked in from the start, allowing the director to focus the entire scope of the film on the messy intricacies of one relationship's most sensitive issues. A small cast, off-handed comments about characters grabbing a mask before leaving the house, and allusions to work-related pandemic safety protocols ground the film firmly in the present while clearly adhering to on-set health standards. As a result, the small-scale production produces uniquely impassioned results, particularly in its concise examination of the film's central conflict. Denis' study is only as strong as the actors who inhabit it, with Binoche and Lindon reaching the pinnacle of melodramatic audacity, hurling insults and ultimatums at each other with scorching energy. Their chemistry is kinetic—if fundamentally volatile—and provides a physicality that is deeply erotic even in its darkest moments. Jean's limp offer of compromise contrasts with Sara soaking in a bath, breasts protruding above water. This exchange, in particular, casts their relationship with discernible dominator and subordinate roles, kinky even in its explicit discontent. Both Sides of the Blade is adroitly handled in Denis' hands, though it pales in comparison to the bold creativity of High Life. —Natalia Keogan

Janella Salvador reveals scene that made her ‘fall in love’ with Valentina role

Janella Salvador has revealed the scene that made her "fall in love" with her character Valentina in "Mars Ravelo's Darna: The TV Series."

The actress gave fans a sneak peek at her script, which includes the aforementioned dialogue, on her Twitter page yesterday, Aug. 16. This comes shortly after the series' second episode aired.

The scene featured Valentina's alter ego Regina Vanguardia exposing the corruption of Nueva Esperanza's local government officials, putting her at odds with the town's Mayor Zaldy (Simon Ibarra).

"Bunga ng korapsyon ng mga matataas na posisyon. Sila ang mga kriminal tunay! 'Yun nga lang, ano ang huhuli sa mga kriminal? What about the pulis? Is it possible to hulihin ang mga ito or to be together in nakikinabang? In the episode, Regina said, "

(This is due to the corruption of those in positions of power; they are the true criminals! But who catches criminals? The police? Do they truly want to catch them, or do they benefit from it?)

"Is that your [pinaglilingkuran]?" What kind of simple mamamayan do you have in your house? What about your friends? " She also inquired of Zaldy. (Are you serving the ordinary citizens who elected you, or your friends?)

Salvador admitted that the scene made her admire her character, and she hoped that the episode was enjoyable for the viewers as well.

"The first scene we worked on when I was auditioning for the role of Regina." How could I not fall in love with her? " she explained.

Netizens on Twitter praised the scene, praising the series for making Valentina politically aware and well-spoken.

"Oh, to have Atty. Regina. An educated, well-spoken, and politically aware individual who uses her intelligence and platform to speak out when she believes something is wrong. @Jelelamazing described her as "a perfect representation of beauty and brains with a purpose."

"Yet another reason to be a Valentina defender." Regina is politically aware, si Regina," another netizen @eyemeyyy remarked.

The first episode of "Mars Ravelo's Darna: The TV Series" aired on Monday, August 15. Meanwhile, the second episode featured the death of the first Darna (Iza Calzado), the reunion of Narda (Jane de Leon) and her former classmate Brian (Joshua Garcia), and their first meeting.

Zaijian Jaranilla, Rio Locsin, Jeric Raval, and Joem Bascon are among the other stars who appeared in the first two episodes.

Royal Family: Kate Middleton’s little known ex-boyfriend before Prince William who left her ‘completely heartbroken’

All those glamorous balls and events, romantic dates in far-flung corners of the world, an alpha man in a uniform, lots of money, and a designer wardrobe - need I go on? As a result, it's difficult to imagine them ever struggling in love.

Kate Middleton, on the other hand, discovered that, like the rest of us, you must kiss a few frogs before meeting your prince. The Duchess of Cambridge was reportedly heartbroken by her ex-boyfriend, Harry Blakelock.

The couple is said to have dated while Kate was at Marlborough College. The relationship allegedly lasted a year, and despite the pressures of exams, they "both agreed they wanted to make the relationship work," according to Katie Nicholl's biography of Kate.

"Harry decided to take a gap year and travel around the world and decided to break up with her, leaving her "heartbroken," she added. While Harry has mostly stayed out of the spotlight, he did marry one of Kate's school friends (Sarah Follett) and is now a partner at Lockton, the world's largest independent insurance broker.

The Duchess was quickly smitten again after recovering from her heartbreak and meeting Prince William at university in 2001. As William explained during their engagement interview in 2009, the royals' shared sense of humour helped them connect.

"She's got a really naughty sense of humour, which really helps me because I've got a really dirty sense of humour," he explained at the time. "It was good fun, we had a really good laugh, and then things happened."
