Netflix has long ignored password sharing on the site, but it is now experimenting with new ways to monetize those who share their password.
A new trial in Argentina, which will undoubtedly be expanded to other countries, sees a new prompt appear when you use your Netflix account outside of your household - on a TV or TV-connected device - for more than two weeks.

An extra home using your password in the country will cost an extra 219 pesos per month (around US $1.17) and $2.99 outside the country, according to Bloomberg.
There is also a support page that goes into greater detail:
"Beginning August 22, 2022, when you sign in to Netflix on a TV outside your home, you will see the option to add the extra home for a monthly fee."
"If you will only be using this TV for a short period of time, you can watch Netflix for up to two weeks at no additional cost as long as your account has not previously been used in that location." Unless you add the extra home, the TV will be blocked after that time."
Netflix has been looking for ways to recoup cash after seeing its fortunes plummet since the entry of streaming services such as Disney Plus and Apple TV.
It revealed in April that freeloaders 'piggybacking' on other people's passwords was one of the main reasons it was losing subscribers. It is estimated that 100 million people watch Netflix this way.
It was pretty clear that this was the next area where Netflix would crack down, as well as consider offering an ad-supported tier to attract those who thought a Netflix subscription was too expensive right now.
Purchasing passwords
"Over the last 15 years, we've worked hard to build a streaming service that's easy to use, including for people who travel or live together," Netflix writes in an official blog post. "It's great that our members love Netflix movies and TV shows so much that they want to share them more broadly."
"However, today's widespread household account sharing undermines our long-term ability to invest in and improve our service." So we've been looking into different ways for people who want to share their account to pay a little bit more."
The password sharing crackdown is currently taking place in Argentina, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala; Netflix will notify these members via email about the changes.
These are the Netflix codes required to access the service.
